Moleskine is a stationary brand that specializes in high-end notebooks and planners. Print and out-of-home advertisements were created by Julianna Barnaba, Lauren LaFlamme and myself for our Elements in Creative Advertising course. For this project, we focused on the concept of balance and how Moleskine’s planners are an essential tool in organizing one’s life. Since we were dealing with an older audience, we wanted to keep our visuals simple with muted colors and bold text. We envisioned our ads on a billboard and a general-interest magazine that would likely be read by the target audience, such as reader’s digest.
Planning
We used Mural to plan what typefaces, colors, and layouts would work best for this project. We pulled inspiration from images that had simple layouts with a pop of color. We ended up using earth tones coupled with a pop of blue.
Sketches
My group members and I developed our own sketches before designing on the computer. These were two sketches that inspired the print ad I ended up developing.
Roughs
Our original concept focused on success. We eventually concluded that our target would be more attracted to the idea of balancing their schedule. It seemed more realistic and obtainable.
